An early Staffordshire lead glazed figure of a man, circa 1760

Modelled seated on a stump and reading from a book held in both hands, his eyes, his book and shoes picked out in brown, his suit splashed in green and blue, 11.6cm high

Footnotes

The modelling of the hair and the folds at the back of his coat is very distinctive and relates to the pair of figures in the Willett Collection illustrated by Pat Halfpenny, English Earthenware Figures (1991), p.24
